Beijing's green economy index ranks 6th in China
According to the Report on 300 Chinese Cities' Green Economy and Green GDP Index issued by Beijing Technology and Business University, Beijing's green economy index ranked sixth in China. Encouragingly, the green economy index of 273 mainland cities rose by nearly 30 percent over levels a year ago. The green economy's development goals are efficiency, harmony and sustainability. Ecological agriculture, industrial recycling and renewable service industries are the green economy's economic structure, growth patterns and social formations. According to the report, the ten highest-rated cities were Shenzhen, Sanya, Haikou, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Beijing, Changsha, Dongying, Wuhan and Weihai. The ten lowest-rated cities were Liaoyang, Luliang, Laiwu, Jixi, Tongchuan, Changzhi, Xinzhou, Zhongwei, Shizuishan and Linfen, all of which feature resource-consuming and environment-degrading industries at the base of their economic structures. The average green economy index of the 31 provinces and autonomous regions in the Chinese mainland reached 0.2039, posting an increase of 32 percent over last year's 0.1542. General consensus has formed around the importance of a green economy throughout the world, and the development of a green economy is becoming a global trend. Presently, China is in the last stage of transitioning from a traditional economy to a green economy.
